Do you think it's important for siblings to have separate interests?

I have a friend who intentionally split up her boys for some classes because she wants them to have their own friend groups. This intrigued me, so I'm curious to know what other moms do. My kids are together all the time (we homeschool), but they're also 4 years apart, so they're in different levels of activities by default.

At what age do you assign children chores?

I think 5-7 is a great age, as both of my kids started showing an interest in helping around the house at that age. Before that, I think I'd have to re-do the chore afterward anyway!

At what age do you stop reading bedtime stories?

I hope my kids keep wanting me to read until they're teens :-) My almost 9yo has read on his own for a few years now, but he still loves hearing bedtime stories (and so does his little brother).

Have you traveled internationally with your kids?

Theoretically, I'd love to travel internationally with my kiddos, but I'm hoping other parents have some insight on how to manage not only expectations, but also the packing, schlepping stuff, flying, and everything else!

For everyday car trips, what does your family listen to?

My kids and I have similar taste in music, thankfully, so we usually jam to the radio!

When did you start solids?

I started around six months with my kids, but knowing what I know now, I'd probably wait longer. Just because babies are supposed to meet milestones like mastering the pincer grasp and sitting up unassisted before starting solids, and I didn't know all of that!

Do your kids like spicy food?

One of my kids loves spicy food and my other one doesn't. A little bit of hot sauce is usually okay for both though!

Do you allow your child to have friends sleepover?

So far we've only had sleepovers with cousins, and my oldest is almost 9. I'm sure at some point we'll do sleepovers with friends, likely at our own house, though!

Do you parent the way your parents did?

My husband and I, as well as many couples we know, are purposely parenting way differently than their own folks did. We're more of a positive parenting household while both our families were more authoritarian in many ways.

Does your family eat leftovers?

My family usually does intentional leftovers--there's nothing like a big pot of soup or spaghetti to last a few days and fill hungry tummies at lunchtime.

Have you jumped on the elderberry train??

We recently switched from just doing daily vitamin C to doing an elderberry product (store bought!) and it seems to be helping ward off illness. Fingers crossed it works, and I'm hoping to make our own next time!

Did your birthday child ever ask for donations instead of gifts?

I've never presented the idea to my kids, but it sounds like an amazing idea! They are already inundated with "stuff" and it drives me nuts!

What is Your Favorite Splurge Beauty Treatment?

Massages are amazing, especially because it's uninterrupted time where you can literally lie down for a bit!

Do you throw your child a birthday party with friends every year?

We used to either meet up places with friends, or we'd do stuff just as a family. But at home now we have the space for parties, and my kids love having friends over and coming up with goodie bag ideas. So we're planning on sticking with parties with friends more than not!

What does your family do for most 3 day weekends?

We usually stay home and relax--I don't enjoy fighting traffic on holiday weekends to get wherever we want to go!

Do you keep a sleep schedule when the kids are not in school?

With this last break, it was kind of 'anything goes,' but I'd like to say that we normally keep a schedule even during school vacations.

Are there any activities that you "make" your kids try?

I've never really made my kids try anything, they've volunteered for things they want to do--I just provide the info if I think it might be up their alley. So far so good!

How far do you travel for vacations?

A couple of our favorite family (and beach!) destinations are over three hours from home--and with kids it can take up to four. I wouldn't go any farther than that for our trips with a 4yo and 8yo.

Does your son/daughter particpate in Cub Scouts or Girl Scouts?

Same here, and we have a pretty busy schedule as is, so I wouldn't push them if they weren't super into it.

Do you do spring cleaning as a family?

Same here--we have all seasons cleaning, but mom is usually the one responsible for it!
