My parents had a party for me once where you came dressed as your mom or dad.
There was a party where the mom wrote a menu out in scrambled letters. You had to select one starter, one side and one main course. Then the kids got served what they ordered. All the foods were "kid-friendly" and the kids loved seeing what they actually ordered.
