Decorate Doors for Trick or Treating at Home
Jacqueline Perez said: Decorate all the doors around your house and do trick or treating at home. Different themes I used were Harry Potter, the Wizard of Oz, simple candy corn colors, Day of the Dead Mexico-style.
Read Halloween Books
Kelly R. said: One of our favorite fun things to do for Halloween is stock up on a big assortment of spooky books from the library, and then enjoy reading them all month long. There are great Halloween books for kids of any age, just make sure to request them early if you're getting them from the library!
Neighborhood Costume Parade
Shila said: In coordination with neighbors, select a time when kids can parade down the street and show off their Halloween costumes. Play some haunted music and cheer for the little ghouls and boys! Neighbors can host driveway-side candy tables too.
Carve Jack-o'-Lanterns
Kelly R. said: Carving pumpkins is one of my family's Halloween traditions each year! Whether you free-hand your designs or use cool pumpkin templates, it's fun for the whole family to roll up their sleeves and get messy! Don't forget to save some of the seeds for roasting.
Make Creepy Treats
Kelly R. said: Halloween feels like the official beginning of the holiday season, so one of our favorite Halloween activities for kids is to spend some time making some festive seasonal treats. Since there is so much sugar already involved, you might prefer some spooky snack recipes instead of more desserts...it's a fun idea for after school!
Virtual Costume Party
Kelly R. said: If you want to plan some fun things to do for Halloween that include friends or relatives you won't be seeing in person this year, connect with family or friends via Zoom for a virtual costume party! Attendees can choose festive backgrounds, tell some ghost stories or Halloween jokes for kids, and have a costume contest.
Throw a Halloween Party
Alexandra F. said: Break out your spooky decorations, haunted playlist, creepy treats and festive Halloween games and invite family & friends over for a Halloween party!
Conquer a Corn Maze
Kelly R. said: Nothing says "fall" quite like a stroll through a corn maze (especially with a warm drink in hand), so find one near you and make it a fun Halloween outing!
Visit a Pumpkin Patch
Kelly R. said: Find a local pumpkin patch in your area to explore with your family, and pick out your perfect pumpkins for carving. Many offer awesome outdoor Halloween activities for kids!
Decorate the House
Kelly R. said: Halloween activities at home are much more festive when you're celebrating in a house that's decorated for the occasion! The beauty of many Halloween decorations is that they don't have to be perfect, so let your kids go crazy decorating with faux spiderwebs, plastic spiders and homemade paper bats. You can also have your kids work on some fun Halloween crafts to display around the house!
