Hocus Pocus (1993)
Amanda Banta said: The Sanderson sisters return to life three centuries after being hanged as witches, finding that things are much different and Halloween is now a holiday for kids. Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker star in one of the all-time best family movies for Halloween. Enough said.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)
Amanda Banta said: The Peanuts gang's activities are fall highlights - pumpkin picking, leaf raking, trick or treating - and Charlie and Lucy do their thing with the football. The Great Pumpkin looms as a Santa-type figure for Halloween and though it fails to appear, fan favorite Linus never wavers in his belief.

Hotel Transylvania (2012)
Amanda Banta said: Adam Sandler plays Dracula as an overprotective dad who has built Hotel Transylvania to keep his daughter hidden away and safe from humans. Dracula opens the hotel to his expansive group of friends, and there is plenty of humor created by the kid-friendly monsters.
Monsters, Inc. (2001)
Kelly R. said: Mike and Sulley help power the city of Monstropolis with children's screams. When a little girl wanders into their domain, they are determined to return her safely home and discover that there are emotions more powerful than fear. Sensitive kids might be spooked at times, but it's a perfect not-too-scary family movie for Halloween that allows younger kids to enjoy some safe thrills.

Coco (2017)
Jennifer Torres said: Coco takes place in Mexico and centers on family. Miguel's passion is music and he is transported to the Land of the Dead where he reconnects with lost loved ones and learns why music is such a large part of his life. The celebration of The Day of the Dead is beautifully depicted in this adventure to another world. It's a special, not-too-spooky movie for the whole family!

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride (2005)
Tim Ponisciak said: This is a great stop motion animation movie from Tim Burton. It also has some great voice actors in Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. On his way to meet his future bride in an arranged marriage, the pending groom accidentally marries a walking-dead woman instead! It's a short one, too, so it's an easy family Halloween movie to watch after trick or treating is over.
Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest (2013)
Sue Krawitz Tandoc said: Everybody's favorite monkey is having non-scary adventures in one of the best animated Halloween movies for kids! George prepares for the town Boo Festival and wants to come up with an ideal costume and participate in the haunted house when he hears the story of the headless scarecrow, No Noggin.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)
Kelly R. said: The first Harry Potter movie has the widest age appeal and isn't quite as dark as its followers increasingly become, but they are all perfect family movies for Halloween!
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
Kelly R. said: This is one of my family's all-time favorite Halloween movies for kids and adults! There's some iffy language and some pretty frightening situations, but my kids first saw it and loved it when they were 4 and 7. Sprinkle some Reese's Pieces on your popcorn and you have the perfect Halloween family movie night.
Edward Scissorhands (1990)
Shila said: This creepy Tim Burton movie about a solitary man with scissors for hands who is thrown into a suburban lifestyle is one of the classic Halloween movies for tweens and teens!
Double, Double, Toil and Trouble (1993)
Stephanie W. said: If you get a kick out of reliving your favorite classic 90s movies with your kids, don't forget about this one from the Olsen Twins! The girls learn that their great aunt has been cursed by her own twin, and must set things right. It's a fun family Halloween movie that your kids will love!
Halloweentown (1998)
Amanda Banta said: After learning she is a witch, a young girl travels to Halloweentown, which is full of ghosts, goblins and other supernatural creatures and needs to be saved from evil forces. The late Debbie Reynolds stars as the witch grandmother of the hero. Halloweentown was an original TV movie on the Disney Channel and spawned a series of additional movies.

Room on the Broom (2013)
Vanessa M. said: Based on one of the best Halloween books for kids, this is a not-so-scary kids Halloween movie about a kind witch who gives rides on her broom to some animal friends, much to the annoyance of her pet cat.

Spookley the Square Pumpkin (2004)
Amanda Banta said: Spookley is square. All other pumpkins are round. You can see where this is going. This Halloween cartoon has a strong message of anti-bullying, and the movie has a light enough story to be enjoyed by young children.

Toy Story of Terror! (2013)
Kelly R. said: A short and spooky Halloween cartoon adventure featuring the Toy Story gang as they head out on a road trip that goes wrong.

Spooky Buddies (2011)
Dawn Denning said: If your kids love adorable puppies, Spooky Buddies is one of the cutest kids Halloween movies! Five cuddly puppies save the world from a bad guy, Warlock the Magician.

The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008)
Dawn Denning said: When the Grace family moves into a creepy, rundown mansion in the middle of nowhere they are urged to leave by the amazing creatures that inhabit it. The kids are submerged into a world of faeries and fantasy while investigating all the strange accidents that keep happening while living in their amazing new home.
Men in Black (1997)
Kelly R. said: This sci-fi comedy about a secret government agency that monitors alien life on Earth is more funny than scary, but some of the thrills might be too much for younger kids. Once your kids are ready for it, it makes a crowd pleasing family movie for Halloween that is great for a wide range of ages!
Monster House (2006)
Mommyx3 (Monique H) said: The name says it all but its definitely the cutest. This has always been one of our favs! Its literally the best "horror-friendly" family movie ever!
Ghostbusters (1984)
Kelly R. said: Ghostbusters does seem to have an ageless appeal, but you might want to consider saving this Halloween movie for tweens and teens given the amount of racy content. The 1980s CGI makes a lot of it more silly than scary.
ParaNorman (2012)
Kelly R. said: Misunderstood and bullied, Norman has the ability to communicate with the dead. When a centuries-old curse on his town awakens, can he save the day?
Coraline (2009)
Kelly R. said: Featuring amazing stop-motion animation, young Coraline finds a door that leads to an alternate world that looks almost like her own. With some creepy visuals, this is a step up in intensity from some of the other tamer kids Halloween movies.
Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)
Kelly R. said: Quirky claymation duo Wallace and Gromit are tasked with protecting the town's upcoming giant vegetable competition from rabbits, including the monstrous Were-Rabbit. A fun Halloween movie for kids of all ages that incorporates horror elements in a non-threatening way.

The Haunted Mansion (2003)
Kelly R. said: A workaholic real estate agent (Eddie Murphy) and his family are trapped in a spooky mansion in this movie based on the beloved Disney attraction. While it's not the best of Disney's Halloween movies for kids, fans of the attraction will enjoy picking out the many references to the ride. Aside from some spooky frights, there is a bit of language and adult content that makes it iffy for some families, so I'd recommend checking that out before deciding.

The Addams Family (2019)
Kelly R. said: We enjoyed this for a Halloween family movie night! The Addams Family creates controversy when their unique style clashes with a nearby planned community. I found it much more family-oriented than the live-action movies, which we'll save for when the kids are a bit older.
Frankenweenie (2012)
Kelly R. said: After a boy's beloved dog is hit by a car, he draws inspiration from his science teacher to reanimate his best friend. What could possibly go wrong?

The Addams Family (1991)
Alex F said: The Addams Family is a great Halloween movie for tweens and teens, and the theme song a perfect choice for any family-friendly Halloween playlist! Based on the sitcom from the 1960s, a long lost relative shows up at the home of the wealthy and decidedly eccentric Addams family, who soon suspect he is a fraud trying to swindle them. There is enough dark humor and overall creepiness to make it a fun choice for the season without actually being scary, though some mild bad language, sexuality and outlandish violence may make it more appropriate for older kids.
The Witches (1990)
Kelly R. said: In this film adaptation of the spooky book (adjusted for a happier ending much to the dismay of Roald Dahl), a boy discovers a convention of witches and tries to thwart their plans to turn children into mice. Anjelica Huston is superb as the Grand High Witch. This was the last film that Jim Henson worked on, and the incredible makeup and puppetry might be scary for younger viewers.
SCOOB! (2020)
Kelly R. said: Scooby Doo fans will get a kick out of the franchise's first animated theatrical movie, which includes a backstory on how the gang first met as kids (on Halloween night!). Years later, the mystery-solving team works together to try to stop the mythical three-headed dog Cerberus from being unleashed upon the world.
Labyrinth (1986)
Kelly R. said: An imaginative and delightfully weird movie where a teenage girl has to rescue her baby brother from a Goblin King (David Bowie) in a fantasy world loaded with amazing Muppet puppetry.
Muppets Haunted Mansion (2021)
Kelly R. said: As fans of both the Muppets and the Haunted Mansion, my family enjoyed this one! Gonzo has to spend the night in the mansion and encounters plenty of familiar ghosts.

The Book of Life (2014)
Kelly R. said: Entertaining, funny and fast-paced story with a Dia de los Muertos & afterlife theme that makes it a fun family Halloween movie. We like to watch it when we want to mix it up from the classics.
Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie (2005)
Kelly R. said: In this short and sweet little Halloween cartoon movie that's perfect for preschoolers, the friends from the Hundred Acre Wood celebrate Halloween. When Pooh eats all of the trick-or-treat candy, Roo and Lumpy set off on an adventure that tests their courage, hoping to capture a mysterious monster that can grant their wish for more sweets.
The Witches (2020)
Kelly R. said: The newest film adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic book stars Anne Hathaway as the Grand High Witch trying to carry out a dastardly plan to turn the world's children into mice. The creepy CGI in the film was a little too scary for my elementary schooler, so I'd recommend it as one of those Halloween movies for kids that's best saved for age 10 and older (depending on your child!).
