New Kids & Family Movies Coming Out in 2023
Let's get excited for all of the new kids movies coming out in 2023! While it's fun to revisit classic family movies, there's nothing like catching a brand new flick together.
We're gathering a list of new family movies in theaters or streaming in 2023. If you've seen any of these with your kids, please leave a review to let fellow parents know if they're worth checking out!
Home Alone (1990)
Kelly R. said: If your kids enjoy slapstick humor as much as mine do, this holiday movie is going to be a home run. Young Kevin McCallister defends his house against a pair of absurd burglars after his family forgets to bring him along on their Christmas vacation.
Barbie (July 2023)
Kelly R. said: I haven't laughed this much at a movie in years. We went with a group of middle schoolers and parents and had the best time.
Haunted Mansion (July 2023)
Kelly R. said: Based on the beloved theme park ride, the new Haunted Mansion movie is about a woman and her son trying to rid their home of ghosts.
Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken (June 2023)
Alexandra F. said: Shy, teenage Ruby Gillman just wants to fit in in high school, but when she discovers that she is a descendant of the warrior Kraken queens, has to step up to find a way to protect those she loves.
Elemental (June 2023)
Kelly R. said: We really liked this Disney & Pixar movie about a city where the residents are elements (fire, air, water, land) living together. Not among our all-time favorites from Pixar, but it was good!
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (April 2023)
Kelly R. said: One of the best new kids movies we saw this year! It was perfect for our son's birthday outing with a few friends, and there were plenty of references in it for the adults who grew up playing the games, too.
The Little Mermaid (May 2023)
Kelly R. said: I took a group of tweens & teens to see this, and everyone enjoyed it. A fun update on the classic, but we were all disappointed that there was no "Les Poissons!"
Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret (April 2023)
Alexandra F. said: Based on the beloved coming-of-age novel by Judy Blume, 11-year-old Margaret learns how to adjust following a big move, with the support of her mom and grandma, who are also figuring out changes in their own lives.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 2023)
Kelly R. said: We have loved all of the Guardians movies, and the third one was a hit with all of us. There are some pretty disturbing scenes of animal experimentation/cruelty, so be prepared for this if you have sensitive kids.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (June 2023)
Kelly R. said: My kids and I loved the second installment of the Spider-Verse saga, and enjoyed it just as much as the first one! Be aware that this will be a trilogy, so you'll have to wait a bit longer for the story to be wrapped up.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (March 2023)
Alexandra F. said: We loved this new family movie based on the enormously popular role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons. And, we were totally able to follow along, even though none of us have ever played D&D. It was funny, light-hearted and had a great story and cast of characters. It's a fantasy adventure film so it features plenty of magical battles, sword fights, and a few surprises that might be bit scary for young kids (like a dead body suddenly popping up out of a grave), but overall I thought it was quite family friendly. Highly recommend, especially for tweens and up!
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (June 2023)
Alexandra F. said: Harrison Ford is back as everyone's favorite adventuring archeologist, in the fifth installment of this classic family movie series, with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas as executive producers and John Williams composing the score, as he has for all the Indy movies.
A Really Haunted Loud House (September 2023)
Stephanie Wong said: Nickelodeon's newest movie "A Really Haunted Loud House", based on "The Loud House" franchise, is such a great movie for kids ages 5-15 and their families! The costumes are amazing and they also have an original song called Spooky Nights that they made and it's super catchy. It premieres September 28, 2023, and will air on Nickelodeon. Families can also stream it on Paramount+. A Really Haunted Loud House
